Iron Man 3 Review

So last night I saw one of the most anticipated movies of the year, Iron Man 3! And can I just say... FEELINGS! OH MY GOD!

But before I get into yelling about my feelings, I'll do a brief review. Iron Man 3 is set shortly after the Avengers film (whether that's by a few months or a few years however remains to be seen). While Tony Stark is going through bouts of anxiety and post-traumatic stress, Pepper is now running the Stark corporation. We also have a new villain, "The Mandarin". A psychopath, terrorist, who is trying to run the states into the ground. A few other characters are introduced, and this movie just rockets right into action!

OK! Now that that's over with.... THAT MOVIE! It was fabulous! Funny, witty, jam packed with action, twists (though occasionally obvious ones), not to mention some interesting new villains, this made for a KILLER Marvel film! One of the best yet in my opinion!

Being a fan of Marvel for the majority of my life, Iron Man 3 did no disappoint. In fact, I dare to say it could be one of my new favorites... could be. I'll have to see it again to be sure!

I'll have more of a review on youtube shortly! Thanks for reading!

The Following Season Finale

So to those living in not TV land aka "normal" people, there's this show on FOX called the Following! It's a crime-drama starring Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy (characters Ryan Hardy and Joe Carroll. Not gonna lie, it's a DAMN GOOD SHOW. Like actually!

Several years ago, FBI agent Ryan Hardy was involved in a case, searching for a serial killer murdering beautiful young women (and cutting out there eyes afterwards of course). The killer turns out to be Joe Carroll, an english professor at a local university. The man is obsessed with Edgar Allan Poe, and is convinced that there is nothing more beautiful than the death of a beautiful woman. Creepy, I know. So fast forward to the present, and there are murders popping up with the same M.O. as Carroll, who was long ago imprisoned.

The show is dramatic, inciting, full of action and a large amount of plot twists! For any crime and/or drama program lovers, I strongly suggest this show! It's very well done, and guess what? Season 1 just ended! And hallelujah it's been renewed for a second!

I'm definitely excited to see what's to come with the next season, too bad we're months away from the premiere.

Thanks for stopping by!

Evil Dead remake Review

Greetings fellow horror lovers! This weekend I saw the remake of the Evil Dead, and boy was I pleased.

Being a fan of the original, it was nice to see the updates. At first it was a little funny, almost parody like (at the very first!), but as we went on it got creepier and more horror like, similar to the original. We had a very close plot line, full of ridiculously painful deaths. Definitely wouldn't want to be a single character in this film!

The scare aspect was good, the gore was awesome, and I enjoyed seeing the stupid decisions these people would make to get to their own deaths. There were definitely a lot of angry whispers between my friends and I.

Anyway! I thought it was pretty good. I'd give it a 4/5 stars. Definitely worth a watch if you're a fan of the original (or a fan of horror in general).

A Finale and Premiere

WARNING: Spoilers Ahead!!!!

For all my fellow Walking Dead and Game of Thrones addicts out there, you know that last night we had a season finale, and a premiere.

Walking Dead wrapped up season 3 with not a bang, but a pretty dang good surprise. Throughout the season we saw Andrea go through ups and downs with the Governor and Woodbury, as well as with Rick's group. We saw her standing over the Governor in the night with a knife (only after sleeping with him a thousand times of course). But for some reason she still couldn't do it! Until she found out how bad he really is. And at that point it was too late. Once Andrea was locked away in that cell we were all pretty sure she was done for. The torture devices on the table? I mean what else were they for? But no, when we come into the premiere it's not Andrea the Governor is roughing up, but Milton.

Poor guy, all he wanted to do was help. Unfortunately he gets himself killed, and gets Andrea killed as well when he goes all walker on her ass and bites her.

It was a pretty exciting episode, and I appreciated the slowing at the end. I was watching it with a group of friends, and at the end after Andrea died we were all terrified by the music that the Governor was about to jump out at any moment and kill someone else! So I'm glad that didn't happen! The episode ended nicely with all the Woodburians coming to the prison and joining Rick's lovely little group!

The only thing I have to say about that is... how the HELL are you going to feed all of those people Rick? I guess we'll find out in Season 4!!! Too bad we have to wait until October.......

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE!

Game of Thrones is back on the air! Que the HALLELUJAH! I've been waiting SO long for this, and it's so exciting to have it back!

The premiere was great! We got insights on almost all of our main characters again! We have Jon joining the wildlings, Daenerys raising an army, Stannis being an idiot, Goffrey falling for his new lady (who I believe may be making everyone a fool with her act), Tyrion not to happy with his new chambers, Sanza probably wishing she'd gone with the hound now and Rob and Catelyn just missing a good fight. The only characters we didn't see from were Theon and Arya. I was looking forward to seeing what happened with both of them, but I guess they had to keep us in suspense for a reason! Not to mention they'll probably touch on it next episode.

The only questions I'm left with from this episode are... WHAT THE HELL was that thing that attacked Dany? Is Jon REALLY joining the wildlings or is this all just an act? (Pretty sure it's just an act.) Is Stannis going to quit following everything his red woman says anytime soon? (Probably not.) And what happens next?

Next weeks episode COME AT ME!

PS. I would appreciate it AMC and HBO if you would not put my favorite shows on the same night and make me choose between them again, THANKS.

Game of Thrones Review

SO GAME OF THRONES COMES BACK TO HBO THIS SUNDAY!!!!

If you couldn't tell, I'm a little excited.... Just a little....
I love the crap out of this show. It's seriously one of my top two shows. The only one rivalling it right now would be Breaking Bad. So in honour of this incredible show coming back to television, I made a review video on my youtube channel!

Enjoy!

The video was only posted yesterday and has already gotten a pretty good response, so I hope everyone likes it!

Survivors

While I was home for the march break I started watching a short series that my mom recommended me that she really liked.

Survivors is a british post-apocalyptic TV series, with 2 seasons, only 6 episodes each. The show depicts a group of people trying to survive after a virus spread over the world, destroying billions of people across the globe. These SURVIVORS must ban together to keep each other alive, while other groups threaten to disband them, or even kill them.

SO, holy crap is it ever good! I am IN LOVE with this show! Which is unfortunate considering it was cancelled in 2010........ British TV you are a heartless bastard. I won't spoil anything, but the show leaves off on a HUGE cliffhanger, one which is never explored or resolved. I was so sad, not to mention mad that this wonderful show was cancelled, due to not enough viewers. BRING IT TO AMERICA, WE LOVE POST-APOCALYPTIC TV! Or at least that's what I think.

If you like the Walking Dead, you're sure to love this spin on a global epidemic meets the end of days.

PS. Survivors is available on Netflix at the present moment. I STRONGLY recommend it. You see all the bold and underlining I did? THAT'S how good it is. Except even better. Enjoy!

March Break

Hola!

So it's march break right now, and that's why I haven't been posting much this week (or last, but I was sick, so....) I'm at my home in New Brunswick, in the land of wonderful, so I've been busy seeing friends and trying to get stuff done for my book. As well as you know, applying for internships, figuring out my OJT situation and working on my outlines for a few videos.

I don't think I've made many personal posts on here, so this will be the first!

If you haven't been keeping up with my youtube channel, I've mentioned it a few times (my being sick) and I'm finally almost better, so hopefully I'll have more videos up this next week (I should since I have a bunch of ideas and stuff).

Soooo if you've missed my new videos, I've done a couple lets plays of the Slender: The Arrival beta, which btw is FULLY RELEASED TUESDAY! You know what I'm going to be doing all week... hehe. So in honour of that wondrous fact, here are my lets plays from this week:

The second one is kind of hilarious, so if you haven't watched one of my lets plays before, watch it. It's pretty great.

Oz the Great and Powerful

THE GREAT AND POWERFUL OZ

Was pretty dang sweet, not gonna lie. It had great visual effects, animation, etc. I loved how they took original storyline to mix it with this new story, without ruining the originals (Wicked and The Wizard of Oz, of course). I'm actually a pretty big fan of Wicked (broadway show), so the fact that they changed Glinda and Theodora's past bothered me at first, but I loved it in the end! They did a fabulous job!

Just so I don't spoil anything, I'll end this as a short one, because I'm REALLY excited after seeing it and I don't want to ruin it for anyone! Great movie, I liked seeing James Franco in a big role again, and all the lovely actresses did a stunning job <3

Before I go, just so everyone knows, I haven't read the Wizard of Oz books, so I have no idea how the original story goes, I can only go off the movies/musicals/broadway shows I've seen!

PS - I'm pretty sick right now, so sorry for the lack of posts this week! I haven't had anything worthwhile to write about!

Writing Series

So my short 3 part series on the writing process is officially done! Well the main parts anyway hehe
I'm thinking of making more parts (probably shorter videos) to do with the writing process, such as character development, world building, etc. So I hope these videos have been helpful! I just realized that I don't actually have the second one posted on here so I will embed both below!

The Divide Review

Psychological thrillers can usually be either really good, or really bad. I've definitely seen my fair share, and love many, so I was pleasantly surprised by "The Divide".

The Divide is about a group of people who get caught basically in the cellar of an apartment complex in New York City, after a nuclear bomb goes off. They all differ dramatically, from the bizarre and quirky owner of the building, to a mother daughter combo, and everything in between. Aside from the emotional trauma from this experience, they all discover that something more is going on. I won't spoil anything for the psychological thriller lovers out there ;)

What I loved about this movie, was like "Blindess", starring Jodie Foster, it was traumatic. You actually feel traumatized for the unspeakably terrible things they have to witness and go through. The movie is disturbing, I'll give it that, but it is GOOD. The plot is good, the character development, and devolvement was fabulous. I don't recommend this to the faint of heart, but anyone who loves a good story, you're in for one hell of a ride.

Dark Skies Review

I'm going to try and do this without any spoilers, so that anyone who wants to see it, can still see it and be surprised during the movie!

So last night I saw Dark Skies, a new what I'd call a thriller. It has some horror aspects, some jump scares, and even a sci-fi twist. It was a GREAT movie. I'd give it 4/5 stars. I was thoroughly impressed, especially because it was not what I was expecting!

Dark Skies is about a family of four, struggling parents and their two children. The youngest, Sammi, begins having strange dreams about "the Sandman" who comes to visit him at night. At the same time bizarre things start happening in their home, such as birds flying into the windows, and things being messed with in the kitchen at night. The suspense escalates at a good, fast pace, without diving into it TOO quickly. The only downside I can really say about this movie is that a lot of the scares, and creepy factors, were in the trailer. I always hate when movies reveal too much in a trailer, and this was definitely one of those cases.

STILL, Dark Skies was a wonderful movie, and if you like thrillers, you'll definitely enjoy this movie! Be ready for some unexpected twists!

Dissecting the new Season 3 Game of Thrones Trailer

I realized there was a new trailer today, so in place of my planned video, I instead decided to dissect the Game of Thrones trailer.

Of course I can only go based off of what I know, or my personal opinion since I haven't read the books, but here's what I think is in store for the new season, according to the trailer:

Writing Process: PART 1 Where to Begin

There are a lot of opinions on where you should start writing a story/book/novel. So I'm just here to give you another opinion on what I think is the best way to get going!

First of all, you need your idea! This idea is going to be the corner stone for your entire book, so make it good! Next, you want to build around that idea. You want, characters, a protagonist, conflict, a location (or several), maybe a villain, etc. Then you want to get into detail about these bits! Try thinking of scenes you want to happen or how you want the story to go while you're doing these things, so that you revolve the story and the details, around each other.

Hope this helps! Part 2 coming soon!

Pulp Fiction and The Blair Witch Project

SPOLER ALERT
Just a heads up.

So yesterday my roommate and I watched 2 old movies; Pulp Fiction and The Blair Witch Project. It was kind of fun watching older movies and really getting to see where some movies we see today come from, though I have a few things to review about both movies.

We'll start with the first one we watched: The Blair Witch Project.
I'm sorry but I don't get the hype about that movie. I have a lot of friends who still see this movie today and are SO scared by it. I don't get that though. A few creepy things happen of course, like the little twig dolls hanging in the forest, the yells in the woods from the missing Josh, even the tent being rattled and someone walking around in the forest at night. All of those things are creepy, yes, but they literally all lead up to nothing. The movie just ended suddenly. Usually horror movies don't even bother me when they do that (end suddenly), but it was just the fact that nothing really happened. Not to mention they were the most stupid three characters. I almost couldn't get creeped out by the sketchy things happening because they were so insufferable.

Sorry that got a little ranty.... whoops.

Now for Pulp Fiction.
Unlike TBWP, I get why this is an iconic film. It not only had some of the best and most hilarious dialogue EVER, but it was done in the unique style of showing the story one piece at a time (which I LOVE). At the same time though, similar to movies like the Cabin in the Woods, it left me with a feeling of (excuse my language) what the fuck did I just watch. It's just one of those movies that you KNOW is good, but you're just so confused by it! All in all, I don't have much else to say about it, fabulous actors, love Quentin Tarantino movies, loved it. If you haven't seen it yet, I urge you to! Though if you don't like his style of movies, you may be left very befuddled about what to think!

Video Editing

Today I got to work on my promotional video for class, and it made me realize how much I actually like editing videos. It's simple, rhythmic, and creative. It's kind of soothing even. It's definitely a good skill to have as well, I'd say.

The most stressful part was actually finding free music for it, and I'm still unsure about my choice.

Anyway, just thought I'd quickly share that! The video will be up some time this week, and check out my youtube channel in the mean time for more videos!

The Slender Craze/Review

I'm not really sure how this all started anymore. Whether it was a youtube video, a game or just a legend. All I know is that it's one of the best things to happen to the internet in recent years.

For those of you who don't know, Slenderman is a mythological creature with no face, who is quite well dressed and likes to kidnap people in the forest. The original story is supposedly based out of Germany, where a "tall thin man" abducts children in the night who run away from home. This myth has morphed into hundreds of youtube videos, several games, and even a few twitter pages. It's creeped out more than a few, and it's fan base continues to grow every day.

Personally, I love this craze. I love the simplicity, and the sketchy factor. Not to mention the games. THE best part in my opinion. Slender: The Eight Pages was the first. It was created by Blue Isle Studios as a free game, and has had thousands of people play it, review it, and create lets plays of it. It's a fabulous indie game, and I do recommend it for all those horror fans out there!

Want to hear more? Watch my new video about the Slender craze here:

Want to see me actually play the game? Check out my channel for my Slender lets play videos.

And expect a review on the new Slender: The Arrival beta, then game in March.
Oh, and if the games aren't enough, check out Marble Hornets and/or TribeTwelve on youtube. Their videos are AMAZING, love them! And though I haven't watched them (YET), I hear the Dark Harvest ones are excellent as well! The EverymanHybrid ones are definitely also worth a watch! They were the first ones I watched, and were the videos to bring me into the craze, so thanks guys!

That's it for now,

Whether you're in a relationship or single, Valentines Day can be fun!
I don't get why it's such a pariah to society. Aside from the stereotyping and corporation money-grubbing of course.

I discuss this and more in my new video.

When good characters die

***********SPOLER ALERT*************
DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN LOOPER, GAME OF THRONES OR LES MISERABLE.

A lot of people hate it when in movies/books/tv shows, a protagonist dies. They hate endings where the main character, through all of their struggles, perishes in the end, even if it was a good cause. I, on the other hand, am not one of those people. Not gonna lie, you may find me crying my face off if it’s a depressing enough death, but it doesn’t make it not a good ending.

For example, Looper. In the end of Looper, you find our protagonist Joe, at a crossroads. He realizes that future Joe is about to kill Syd’s mother, which in turn, makes Syd a villain in the future. So in order to save Syd and his mother Sarah, Joe kills himself, which in turn kills future Joe. It sucks right? The main character dies, without getting to be with Sarah, or become a father to Syd, etc. BUT, Joe saves their lives. If it wasn’t for Joe, Sarah would die, turning Syd into a psychopath in the future. So even though the main character dies, he doesn’t die in vain. Which in my opinion is a FABULOUS ending. Not everybody wins, but that’s a tad more realistic. Because in real life, not everyone wins in the end; someone always has to lose, and not always just the bad guy.

You want another example? Okay! In Game of Thrones, in the first book/season, the main character, Ned Stark dies (though he’s not the ONLY main character, he’s still one of the leads). Let me start by saying I DIDN’T KNOW THAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. So I was upset! And very, VERY shocked. Dismayed even. As we were ramping up to the end of the season, I kind of had a feeling he was going to die, but I still didn’t think they’d actually kill him! But they did! And even though I didn’t like it, it was so good for the story! So as the second season progressed, I understood why his death needed to happen in order for the show/books to continue. So I was okay with it….. even if I was still very sad at the same time. Definitely didn’t make me hate the show.

One last example and then I’ll wrap this up.

Les Miserable. FABULOUS film. Loved that movie SO MUCH it was ridiculous. But two main characters die! Jean Val Jean and Fantine, both whom I adored. But in the long run, it was okay. Fantine’s death sparked the rest of the movie, and Jean Val Jean’s sort of wrapped it up. I hated that they both died, but it made the movie incredible.

So what you can take away from this, is that it’s in my opinion that protagonists dying isn’t a bad thing. In fact sometimes it’s a good thing, and don’t judge a movie by your favorite character dying. Look at the bigger picture.

Warm Bodies Review

First of all... SNOW DAY!!
Even if it's the weekend, it's nice to be stuck inside sometimes.

Anyway!
Last night I saw the movie "Warm Bodies". It was actually not what I was expecting. What I thought was going to be a full-on comedy, actually turned into women swooning every which way. The movie was ADORABLE! A post-apocalyptic movie about zombies, adorable? Doesn't make sense right? But it was! Zombie "R" is not your average zombie. Sure he may get the rumbly tumblies for some human brains every once in awhile, but he's deep, he even feels. Unlike most zombies, R still thinks, quite humorously might I add. I won't spoil anything for my readers that haven't seen it yet, but I highly recommend this movie if you A) like zombies and B) like romance with your comedy.

Warm Bodies is definitely a movie to see with your girls or with your boyfriend. Its cute, kind of sappy, and has an interesting plot to boot, all while still remaining quite funny. Literally the only thing that bothered me about the movie was that the zombies didn't hobble like zombies are supposed to, and of course you know, they don't think or feel usually. BUT that was the point of the movie, so once I got passed that in the first 15 minutes of the film, I was A-OK.

I always love a good twist on a classic genre of movies, so I'll give Warm Bodies 5/5 stars. Very enjoyable! So what are you still sitting here reading for? Go out and see it if you haven't already!

Romantic Comedies

Hello to one and all!
This is going to be my first post on my official blog. I look forward to sharing my life to the ever expanding internet!

I recently made a video on "Romantic Comedies" on my youtube channel, so that will be my first topic!
As I state in the video, I am not a huge fan of romantic comedies, though like most women, I do still enjoy them. Lately, I've just been in the mood for a good sappy chick flick, so I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to talk about them, and why women love them.

Hear more in my video.
